It’s tip Tuesday and in today’s quick post I’ll be sharing a few tips that will help you avoid common mistakes you may be making with your branded photos.

More than ever, creatives and entrepreneurs alike are leveling up their businesses and becoming the face of their brands, investing their time and attention in curating the perfect on brand photos. These images are now reflecting personality, telling stories, and authenticity.

So when it comes to capturing your personal branding images that match your brand, there is a lot of overwhelming information around the What? Why? And How? This includes the information I share with you here on the Branded Boss Social Blog. However, there are a few common misconceptions I want to clear up to help you avoid some of the biggest mistakes I see with personal branding.

Let’s get to it.

  1. Substituting a strong head shot for selfies- There is nothing wrong with sharing BTS, also known as behind the scenes. However, completely throwing out the idea that you need a good headshot for your business is doing you and your brand a disservice. You are throwing your professionalism right out the window. These are the types of images that are great for social media, but stay away from using these on your website.

2. Using stock images that don’t match your brand- Stock images are great for when you are in a pinch and in need of a quick image. However, using to many of these images that do not match your brand can cause your business to look un-authentic. I suggest using them very sparingly. Authenticity is what makes your brand stand out. Creating your own, or hiring a professional photographer to help you create content images that match your brand will push you further than any stock image can. These curated images add personality, versatility and character to your business.  The whole point of showing your brand….. is showing off your brand.

3. Limited use of lifestyle imagery- So your audience wants to learn more about you. However, you are hiding behind your brand. We are all guilty of this. Either we have not taken the time to get these types of images, or we think they don’t matter. The time for hiding is over. Show your clients/audience more about you and your life. Your images don’t always have to pertain to your business. Your interest, family, things you love are all things you should be sharing with your tribe. This helps them get to know more about you and build trust.
