Some of the best advice I was given when I started my photography business 5 years ago was,..... "In order for others to invest in you, you must invest in yourself." This is still true today and something I say to my clients. On the other end. When first starting out all investments seem scary. I know the feeling. If there is one thing I can tell entrepreneur's; brand's, and influencer's, it's that you absolutely and without a doubt, should invest in professional photography.
Investing in high-quality, authentic photography that matches you brand is essential as your visuals play a crucial role in delivering the personality of your brand. As well as giving your audience the opprotunity to see the value in what you bring to the table.
As I've said in past posts. We as consumers/followers shop and make decisions based on the perceptions of the things we see. It's the reality of things. So why would you want your imagery to be less then.
So Elena you keep saying this brand word. In one simple statement, your brand is your businesses personality. Not just color's and fonts. A combination of core values, structure, and ethics that leave a lasting impression with your audience. Your visuals help you to cohesively convey your brand.
Therefore, your branding imagery along with your vision is about influencing the way your clients/viewers think about you and your brand, blog or, service. As a result, your personal branding/blogger imagery has a huge impact on your business.
Underestimating the impact of professional photography is one of the biggest mistakes I often see so many creatives and bloggers make. Everything from "I'll hire a friend to take my images, I'll do them myself, I'll use a cell phone pic." Unless your friend or yourself are a professional..... stay away from this. Now that's not to say you cant take your own photos from time to time. However, for specific concepts and attention to details... get a skilled photographer.
"It's not in my budget!" Trust me I get it. When I first started there were a lot of things that were out of my budget. However, custom photography is an asset, and having a library of branding imagery to pull from will save you time, and money in the long run.
Here are a few tips for obtaining brand photos for every budget for bloggers and creative business professionals.
- Research the photographers in your area and find a few that you feel will be able to capture your brand as you want.
- Ask about pricing and special packages. DO NOT ask "Do you offer discounts?" This is the fastest way to be shown the door. As a photographer and business owner. We are in no way pricing ourselves for others. Business owners have responsibilities just like our clients. However, most photographers offer specials on their services at certain times of the year. I'm not saying stalk them until they have a special. Network. Build relationships. Take advantage of the special and then when able... step it up and brand yourself out. Take advantage of a full service. (Tip: building genuine relationships will take you a lot farther then thinking of dollar signs first)
- Barter for services. Every photographer may not do this. If you can provide solid value in doing so. You may have a better chance in making a connection and meeting both parties needs.
- Share your budget.... Some photographers can offer you specific services within your budget. (Closed mouths don't get feed)
As I mentioned before. Having a solid image gallery to pull from can help you personalize and maximize your branding, as well as leverage your value. Use your images throughout your marketing, website, and social media. I give all my clients a usage license that never limits them to where they can use their pictures. This includes clean and creative headshots, lifestyle and detail pictures. People want to know that you are a real person, and by bringing personality to your photos you can easily do this. The saying goes, "PEOPLE DO BUSINESS WITH PEOPLE."
Finally "PEACE OF MIND." It's my job to listen to you, assess your needs and provide solutions to your visual branding challenges. It's my goal to make this a smooth process, and provide you with the visuals you need and want. Personal branding photography is a powerful tool as it has a substantial impact on your "WHY". Creating a space for understanding why you need photography, bringing a humanistic aspect to your photos, and leverage your unique images is my bottom line. I'd love to create with you.
