Happy Monday! It's a new day and a new week! Who's ready to get this party started.... ?
This is definitely my thoughts when my alarm goes off. I’ll be the first to admit that I didn't always have a specific morning routine. That all changed when I felt there was something missing. Especially when 2:00 pm hit and I felt like I had gotten nothing accomplished. I know some of you guys can relate. So I thought why not share my top 5 morning habits that boost my productivity. Trust me this was a work in progress. I have tried following a few routines I picked up from others, but I wasn’t able to keep up the step-by-step plan. That's when I created my own.
So let's go!
So let me be real for a second. I am not a morning person. However, being a mom and my own boss has changed that. Much of my morning is getting my son up and on his way and getting the work day started (if I don't who will?). This means mommy/boss lady can't always lounge in my comfy bed. Now I consider mornings to be the most important part of the day. It sets the tone for the day, like a good Monday.
1. WAKE 20-30 MINUTES EARLIER THEN YOUR ALARM SET TIME
What cha say now.....? Okay! I see the face your making right now.... I get it. I hear you "why would I ever do that?"
Waking up earlier then your normal time can help you clear you mind and set the tone for the day. I tend to wake up, stretch, and do a bit of pre-skincare care. (You guys know I love a good mask). I'll grab my Herbivore Jade Roller and put some Summer Fridays Jet Lag mask under my puffy eyes, and allow myself the space to set at least 1-2 positive intentions for the day. Small goals work best for me.
2. DRINK A GLASS OF LEMON WATER
Lemon water really helps kick start your digestive system and wakes your body up. It will also get you hydrated with a boost of Vitamin C. For those of you who struggle with drinking water. Adding the lemon is a small step to get over the taste hump.
3. DON'T CHECK YOUR PHONE, EMAIL, OR SOCIAL MEDIA UNTIL AFTER YOUR DRESSED
This has been a major struggle for me. I'm glued to my phone most days. However I noticed that I can be more present and stress free if I leave my phone untouched, and not check my email until 10:00 am. I'm not perfect so sometimes I slip up. What has been helping is placing my phone on "Do Not Disturb" and charging it on my desk, and not next to my bed. This also sets a heathy boundary for me.
4. MAP OUT YOUR DAY - TO-DO LIST
Best advice I can share is this. Now don't go listing out everything under the sun. I suggest listing 5 - 10 top priorities for the day. If you have to add to the list during the day, do so under these. Work through the list from top to bottom. Key! Make sure to list items in order of top priority. Don't list laundry before answering an important email in a timely manner.
Additional Tip: If you find that you don't get through your whole list. Leave these tasks for the next day as top priority.
I use to always skip breakfast and found myself mad at the world by lunch (HANGRY). If you can't afford the time to cook. Try making a shake or juicing/smoothie. I make a smoothie 1-3 times a week. It's simple and gives me the energy I need.
Have any good tips? Feel free to share them with me, and incorporate any of these in your morning routine.
