Happy November everyone! We have officially entered holiday season. I love this time of year. Took some time to update my holiday music mix today… no judgement. It's also a great time for outdoor portrait sessions. Update those family photos, photos of you, your friends, your special love, or creating holiday cards to send off. Which I promised my family I would be on time this year. Ha!! Whether you decide to book a session with a professional photographer or just head out on your own with your camera and family, now is the perfect time to make memories with those you love the most. Here are some of my helpful tips on how to create the perfect fall scene for your next session:
Scope out the areas in your neighborhood or city that have the best backdrop which includes lots of trees with leaves ranging in color from those deep reds, burnt oranges and beautiful yellows.… I love them all. Remember you can shoot anywhere! Your capturing those magical moments. A simple park will work. Or, an adventure to the pumpkin field and Christmas tree Farm. Make it an activity for you, your friends, and family. You can even do an at home baking cookie session. It’s your vision. Just capture the holiday love.
Use props people. A cozy blanket you don't mind sitting on (perfect for those setting pictures), and cozy sweaters to keep you warm. Layers are essential. You don’t want to look cold in you photos. Create a scene. Mugs, coco, and fall treats are the perfect accent to the fall shoot.
Use a tripod to capture group shots. If your creating your own images you have to be in them too.
Shoot during golden hour when the sunlight is at it's best. Golden hour happens one hour after the sun has risen and one hour prior to the sun setting so plan accordingly. Or, whenever you feel like it. Go with the flow.
DON’T pose, (okay maybe a few). It will make the family happy. But focus on lots of candids because those are the shots that you will post of social media and print to hang.
AND YES!!!! PRINT YOUR PHOTOS…….. There is noting like a tangible physical memory. I absolutely adore printing my images and framing them.
So get out there and snap away. Go own. I hope these simple tips help you during your next outing so that you can make some wonderful memories with those you love!
