The proposal was sweet yet simple. While getting ready to watch the super bowl game. Janel turned to Lauren and asked "would you make me the happiest man and say yes?" And she did!
Lauren, a Baltimore City school teacher and Janel, a water filtration specialist meet in 2009 at Towson University. She sat next to him in class. Janel leaned over and said "hi". Lauren thought he was a cool guy. They kept in touch as friends for a while, and in 2013 officially decided to hang out. It was at that point that she knew he was a keeper.
Their first date took them to Port Discovery. As dedicated parents they choose to spend the day with their children. I know, how sweet is that.
Last Friday, I meet with Lauren and Janel to shoot their engagement photo's. Through recent chats Lauren decided that DC, specifically the Tidal Basion area would be the perfect place for their session. Lauren loved the idea of a cherry blossom shoot. The pretty colors and enchanting scene was just the perfect setting.
The two arrived excited yet nervous. There weren't many cherry blossom's at first site. The past few days of rain and early blooming left us with green trees. My first thought was, "we missed them, and I need to fix this now." I had hope. I scoped the scene and found a small pocket of colorful and untouched cherry blossom trees by the Jefferson Memorial. I was now at ease and could make Lauren's vision a reality. It turned out to be the perfect intimate setting.
It was a cloudy and chilly morning, but we had the sun on our side. Their personalities and since of humor made for a great session. I told jokes, they laughed, and we talked about their big day. We also enjoyed watching the tourist visiting DC with their selfie sticks. I must admit, I am guilty of walking around with my selfie stick too. What can I say? They are fun and a must at weddings.
I enjoyed capturing their loving and simple candid moments. When two people can truly be themselves that's when the magic happens.
Janel and Lauren love planning date nights and spending time together. "Our dates are the best, we always do something out of the box," Lauren told me.
The two are getting married at the Double Tree Hotel in Pikesville Maryland, May of 2018, and I can't wait.
